This year's show will take place on Saturday 20th July at St. Johns Church, High Street, Harborne, Birmingham.
The Council of the Society decided on a change of venue in the hope that a more central position will bring in more visitors and increase the interest in violas and pansies. Our Treasurer, Gerald Barber, has worked hard to find and secure this venue for the Society. We hope that as many members as possible will attend and put at least one exhibit on the bench. Schedules and maps will be sent to all members.
The much admired blue margined seedling exhibited by Pat Tipping last year has been given a name: "Bernard Cox". A fitting tribute to the gentleman in whose garden the seedling originated. In addition to the quality of its bloom, this variety has the more desirable tufted habit of growth, so producing more cutting material. This should become a well distributed cultivar in the next year or two.
Scottish growers celebrate the centenary of their Society this year. We send our congratulations and trust that they will continue growing and showing for another hundred years! Before you ask, we have to wait until 2014! The 7th of January to be precise.
