Once again, the society attempted to woo the greater public with a show of blooms on boards and in both vases and baskets. Being at the end of our season, it is always difficult to find good blooms, but as always the stalwart members managed to find something worth cutting.
The number of exhibitors was increased this year, notably by Chico White of Tamworth who staged some very fresh blooms and 'got amongst the cards'. I am sure that as his collection grows and his staging skills are honed, he will be a force to be reckoned with on the bench. The addition of a Basket Class extended the range of colour on show and was won by our Treasurer, Gerald Barber A vote of thanks must also go to him for all his work on the stand over the weekend.
Unfortunately, our Chairman, Mr Tom Mantle, was ill and unable to judge, but I am glad to he able to report a good recovery.
Stephen Leigh and Pat Tipping contested the Hazelton Trophy, with Pat emerging victorious this year. Some new members were enrolled, and many favorable comments received about the display.
Thank-you to everyone who contributed to this success. We now have to wait with bated breath to see if the Gardeners Weekend will take place in 1997
