The first of the STA Aquathon Series, and organised
by Ayrodynamic Tri Club , this was a thoroughly successful event from the point of view of our Helensburgh Juniors.
Apart from a teensy admin glitch - Hatty's age had got onto the computer as 18 not 12! - all went according to plan. The day was dry but not too hot, the run route was well marked, and the
results were excellent.
Charlotte McShane was first home, taking the gold medal for girls under-12 and in fact beating all the boys too.
Brother Stephen (only 9) came third in the under-12 boys, thanks to a brilliant run section.
Hatty Floyd was first in the 13-16 group, with a time only seconds slower than the fastest boy and 4 seconds faster than team-mate Stuart Fraser (always so much faster than her on the 'missing' bike section, as he showed so effectively at Turriff).
He, incidentally, now has a place on the Scottish Youth Squad taking him to the British Youth Championships in July at Holmes Chapel - we'll all be rooting for him - meanwhile, poor soul, he's at Club La Santa in Lanzarotte, suffering in the sun ... aw, shame.
To round off the day, our Scottish Squad Vet, Frank McShane entered (and won) the 'parents race'
The prize-giving was followed by a coaching session on sports nutrition by Aquathon Series Coordinator, Liz Broad (a Sports Dietician by trade) with particular emphasis on junior athletes, and with plenty of time for question-and-answers. Thanks Liz
