A miserably wet few days before this event and its timing at the end of the Edinburgh Fair Holiday may have again contributed to the relatively low number of entries. However, what they lacked in numbers they made up in quality, with Stewart McPhail building on a superbly fast swim with an excellent run to take first place in the under-12 boys. Kirsten Daly of Ayrodynamics came a very respectable second in the under-12 girls to our own Charlotte McShane while their respective fathers collected corresponding medals in the 'Open' race. found herself competing alone in the under-14's - we've seen plenty of Edinburgh kids at the Festival Duathlon and New Year's Day IronKids races, surely they weren't all on holiday? And why did none of the adults take on regulars Frank McShane and Vincent Daly in the Open Race?
Scott Balfour, president of Edinburgh Triathletes, had intended to talk about pre-race nutrition, but finding that Liz had covered the same ground at Prestwick he thoroughly entertained us with a few well-chosen remarks about the non-value of such items as Creme Eggs before announcing the results. Once again, Liz produced excellent spot prizes
. She was also able to announce the addition of a Glasgow race [to be held at Scotstoun], though the original date of 8th September clashes with the West District swimming weekend at Dunoon and may therefore be changed.
Overheard, outside the pool: one Edi Tri member to another: "Those kids in there are actually doing tumble-turns!! Can you believe it?"
