This was the first race I competed at this year (apart from the Edinburgh Ironkids New Year's Day Duathlon). The results would be used to choose the Scottish team to go down Rivington, which in turn would be the selection race for the European Youth Relay Championships.

At the race briefing it was extremely cold and wet. Despite the conditions there was a large field for all the events. The Elites - who were the athletes who were hoping to qualify for the Commonwealth Games - started first, swimming in their wetsuits in the pool which was a bit hot for them! They also used a different bike course. Our bike course was good because it was flat most of the way with a few short, sharp hills to climb. The race was good apart from cold which got to some of the competitors quite badly.

The team for Rivington was selected as follows; Anna McRobb, Emma Munro, Rachel Hughes, Thomas Leonard, Blair Cartmell, Ross McDonald, Andrew Davie and me, Hatty Floyd.
